Itinerary

• Day 0 (Oct 28th)
  Arrive at Guwahati by an evening flight and transfer to a resort a little distance from the airport. You can check out the jeeps and take your pick.
• Day 1 (Oct 29th)
  Guwahai to Shillong - We will not take the usual highway throughout but will drive through the backroads, through some wooded sections and hit the highway about 40 kms out of Shillong. We will be travelling to Shillong on a Sunday just to avoid the massive traffic jams that are plaguing the beautiful hill town. At Shillong, we will be staying at a beautiful old homestay done up in a really tasteful manner. The owner is a car collector and you can see his WW II jeeps and some American and British vintage cars. We will go for a drive in the evening through the city…there are beautiful old churches and cemeteries. Enjoy a relaxed evening with timeless beauties.
• Day 2 (Oct 30th)
  Shillong to Cherrapunjee - We will have to move out by 7.30 am to avoid the mad Monday rush! The drive to Cherrapunjee, also called Sohra, is a beautiful one. There might be some rough stretches due to a road construction that would lead all the way to Bangladesh These old Mahindra’s are at home on the hills and you will love the purr of the Hurricane petrol engine as they pull effortlessly up the gradients. There will be rolling hills, deep and gorges on one side and hills on the other side. We will take a little detour to reach our hotel…actually a homestay of sorts. You will love the place…nothing fancy but the view from your room is fantastic. You can see a big waterfall from your room or your balcony and the only thing in between is a forest below. We will drive out through a broken patch of road down to Cherrapunjee town and do an interesting bit of caving and see a couple of nice waterfalls. Enjoy a lovely evening under the stars and by a small fire and some local food.
• Day 3 (Oct 31th)
  Cherrapunjee to Shnongpdeng - We will take a backroad today. The route will take us along the fenced Indo-Bangladesh border across a new bridge and then up towards the small town of Pynursula. We will take a diversion towards the village of Mawlynnlong and go for a short trek that will take us to a living root bridge. A lot of villages in the Khasi Hills have these amazing root bridges across roaring streams. They have used nature for their needs but without destroying it. Lunch will be at one of those small stalls in the village that sells some rather tasty food. We will drive back on some interesting narrow downhill road till we hit the highway and then drive towards the village of Shnongpdeng. Its a narrow winding road and you will have to be careful whenever some other vehicle approaches from the opposite side. You will feel the bumps and the dips of the broken road…but that is the jeep thing! The village is almost at the borders of Bangladesh. The Umgot river, with crystal clear water, runs through the village and on to Bangladesh. The river is the highpoint of the village. As you go on a boat ride upriver, you can look down and see the bottom of the river. You can go in for snorkeling or cliff jumping and its fun indeed. The stay for the night will be at a campsite right by the river. We will have to park our Jeeps and take boats across the river to the campsite……. Nothing very fancy but nice and comfortable and clean. Bonfire under a star lit sky and fish from the river roasted over a wood fire. Enjoy the night.
• Day 4 (Nov 1)
  Shnongpdeng – Umsning A slightly longish drive (about 5 hours) but trough some lovely settings. The jeeps will be at home on a slight bit of bad roads that we will encounter along the way. But generally, we will be driving on wide well laid roads. We will bypass Shillong and head straight for Umsning and stay at a place called the Sanctuary Song Resort. As we take a diversion from the highway, we will drive through some narrow roads with paddy fields on both sides and strawberry trees. It’s a lovely place with cottages, pools, good food. And wide open spaces.
• Day 5 (Nov 2)
  Umsning We will spend another day here and have a day of some trail driving. You can put the jeeps like they are meant to be driven…through some offroad sections, climbs and dips on the hill sides. The trails will not be extreme and the idea is to have fun with these old beauties. We will do this for half a day…come back and relax by the pool and enjoy the nature.
• Day 6 (Nov 3)
  Umsning to airport - It is advised that you book an evening flight out of Guwahati. It will be a 100 kms drive from the Umsning to the Guwahati airport and the route has some bad traffic jams. You will drive theses 4x4’s to the outskirts of Guwahati and then shift to the cabs that will take you to the airport and onwards to your home.
